When we began the creation of the Businessman, we had just finished the book titled "Confessions of an Advertising Man" written by a man named David Ogilvy. You might know him more familiarly from his TV portrayal - Don Draper of Mad Men. However, his life was not always effortlessly glamorous and filled with beautiful women. Ogilvy was a man of many talents and a self-starter. Born into a poor family and growing up as a door-to-door salesman, his journey to becoming the father of modern advertising deeply resonated with us.
The story of the American dream always starts with a poor immigrant and a big idea. With Chris and I both being born into poor immigrant families, we found the humorous-yet-painfully-real anecdotes all too relatable. Incredibly moved by the revolution that one man had started, we wanted to dedicate our first collection to none other than Mr. Ogilvy. That was when "The Businessman" collection was born.
American history often coins Ogilvy as one of its most successful businessmen. He stood by three principles: simplicity and straightforwardness, elegance in presentation, and the importance of a big idea. Inspired by his creative brilliance and work ethics, we wanted to design a watch that upheld all three values. We sketched out The Businessman ultra-thin watch with a simple yet elegant design, emphasizing on its lightweight, portable body and its adaptability to multiple occasions.
We created The Businessman collection to make a beautifully-made watch affordable to aspiring entrepreneurs just like us. The Businessman is more than a time keeper. It serves as a constant reminder that we live in the kind of society where, in almost all cases, hard work is rewarded.
You're on a date or you're at work and someone asks you the time. As you raise your wrist, we see a watch that is way too big to be on your wrist. It looks oversized, bulky, and just flat out terrible on your wrist.
There comes a time in almost every man's life when he feels the urge to buy a watch. After all, women can wear jewelry, but the only accessory that a man can wear is his watch. You might ask yourself, "What is a proper watch?"
